THE COMMUNITY FUND
The Community Foundation of Ottawa is a public, non-profit organization created by and for the people of Ottawa.
As an independent centre for community philanthropy, it connects donors who care with causes that matter and serves as a trusted resource for addressing issues and leveraging opportunities in the community.
Babes4Breasts (B4B) has established a Babes for Breasts Fund through the Community Foundation of Ottawa (CFO).
The fund was established to allow Babes4Breasts’ friends and fans to give to a wide variety of B4B supported charities as well as to receive a charitable tax receipt.
Donors can give to the fund through two ways: First, by writing a cheque to the Community Foundation of Ottawa and noting “Babes for Breasts Fund” in the memo. Second, by going online to the CFO’s website and following the “To Donate Now” link and choosing the Babes For Breasts Fund.
In both instances, the donor can choose whether they would like to support the endowed component of the fund or make a flow-through gift. Endowed means that the funds are permanently endowed and only the earnings generated through investment are distributed in the form of grants – this is typically for a more substantial, long-term gift. A flow-through gift is not added to the capital of the fund, but will be allocated as per B4B’s advice. B4B first strives to support programs (e.g. a music therapy group) for those dealing with breast cancer and secondly, research to cure breast cancer.
The fund is operated by the Community Foundation of Ottawa, an independent centre for community philanthropy connecting donors who care with causes that matter. Since 1987, CFO has been enabling generous citizens to enhance the quality of life in their community and to achieve their own charitable objectives through permanent, well-managed endowments. It is a public, non-profit organization created by and for the people of Ottawa.
